Arid Lands Agricultural services and Research Centre (ALARC), Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University, is located in
Shobra El Khima, North of Cairo; Egypt. ALARC

The Laboratory has been built & inaugurated in 1986. It was firstly funded by different national and international projects. It was a research unit until 2004 when it was upgraded to a Centre aiming at community services. The Laboratory is focused in nine main activities and services that cover the management of plants and water in the field, analysis of plants and soil, pollution, environmental studies, culture of plants, reproduction of vegetables, physiology of plants, development in controlled environment and education. ALARCThe infrastructures include computers and library. Also it has in the property two ranches of 3000 m2 and 63000 m2, respectively, for the conduct of rural research. The Arid Land Agricultural services and Research Centre (ALARC) has a strong links of cooperation with the major agricultural and environmental institutions such as Agriculture research Centre, Ministry of Agriculture, Institute of Environmental studies, water research centre, as well as the private farms and farmers Unions.
